Connie Elder's experience prior to starting her own company includes over 20 years in the medical field and skincare marketing/consulting with several international companies. She began her career with a company that manufactured compression garments for medical uses.

After trying and wearing several shapewear products herself, Connie realized there was a need for a product that offered control, shaping, and all-day comfort. It occurred to her that the technology found in medical-related compression garments might also work for shapewear. Connie sought a manufacturer who could help her use this technology to develop a line of shapewear for all women to wear every day. The result: revolutionary shapewear. Now all she needed was a name!

When it came time to decide on a brand, it was important to Connie that the name be whimsical and fun. Lipo in a Box® was the perfect answer. As the owner of the company, today Connie's goal is to continue developing products for women that help them look and feel better. She participates in women's shows around the country to interact with customers one-on-one regarding their shapewear "wish lists." Ideas for new products, improvements to existing products, and lots of laughs come as a result of these shows. Most of the laughs come from women's reactions to the brand name and logo.

Lipo in a Box® Shapewear was first introduced on QVC in August 2002. Several styles have been developed and added since that time.

Connie is a native of Nashville, TN where she currently lives with her husband, Vaughn, and her two stepsons.

WHY Shapewear?

Connie knows a good thing when she sees it. She turned her experience working for a manufacturer of compression garments for medical applications into a modern product line that offers support, shaping, toning, and comfort to almost any woman, everyday. Connie notes, "This is NOT Grandma's girdle; it can be a surgery-free solution to your figure problems or even complement your surgical procedure as an aftercare garment." Employing the same science used in compression garments, LIPO IN A BOX® shapewear is snug where you want support and comfortable where you need comfort.

WHY the name "LIPO IN A BOX"?

Connie wanted a name that would appeal to a woman's sense of humor. She finds the name makes people laugh, and believes laughter is healthy.

Another reason why ... many women have liposuction, many women consider liposuction, and many women tease about liposuction. It is a universal word and concept most women today understand.

Why Skincare?

Skincare has always been a passion with Connie. Having a background in medical and understanding ingredients and how they affect our skin has always intrigued her. After doing a consulting project with a company out of France looking to introduce their skincare line into the USA, and later some marketing and consulting with a Swiss skincare company, Connie was hooked. She was committed to bringing products that have a high dose of active ingredients with proven results at a fair price to women like herself. Connie has now introduced SMARTcare for skin as an alternative to cosmetic surgery or the perfect compliment.

Why Bras?

Connie has always listened closely to her customers and their needs. Many women voiced a desire to have pretty bras with lots of support and in larger cup sizes. Connie understood personally the lack of bras on the market that offer these features. She went in search of a manufacturer who could supply solutions to her customers request. She worked with them to develop a line of bras that would satisfy any woman's bra wardrobe needs. There are currently four styles of the SMART Bra available in her line.

WHY Alternative Marketing instead of Traditional Retail?

Connie wanted to take her product directly to women. She relates, "Women are so busy these days and they've been frustrated by shapewear that doesn't work and isn't comfortable. Women are tired of spending money on garments that decorate their underwear drawers, instead of helping them look and feel better." Connie decided to find a venue to "Show and Tell" why this product is different than other shapewear and control garments. She began by introducing her shapewear to attendees at Women's Shows throughout the southeast, averaging audiences of 25,000 per show. Connie's "Show & Tell" presentation allows her to demonstrate why her products are different. Women attending the shows are able to give Connie valuable feedback. This feedback is used when Connie works with her designer to create new products and make improvements to current products.

Connie is delighted to be on QVC and have the opportunity to demonstrate her shapewear to an even larger audience in homes across the country.

Why Start this Business?

Connie is driven to help others. Her work in the corporate arena did not afford her the opportunities to fulfill this desire. In establishing her own company, Connie has found a way to help others through her work and interact with women on a variety of levels. Two non-profit causes Connie donates proceeds from her company to support are the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (get more information here) and Breast Cancer Research. Both of these causes are near and dear to her. Connie also serves on the Board of Directors for Soles4Souls.org, a non-profit organization helping people around the world with the gift of shoes.
